Click here for detail: Information about governor appointments

At Lawn Primary school we have a total of 13 Governors - 6 Community/Co-Opted governors, 4 Parent governors, 1 staff governor, 1 Local Authority governor and the Headteacher. We also have a Clerk to support the administration of the Governing Body.

All governors at Lawn Primary School are appointed initially for a four year term and thereafter can be appointed for an extra year at a time. Parent governors are selected via a voting process where there are more candidates than places available. Community/Co-Opted governors are selected by the governing body. Our Staff governor is elected by the staff at the school. The LA governor is nominated by the Ward Councillor and appointed by the governing body.

Nicola Read

Nicola Read - Local Authority Governor

Lead governor on SEN and shadow governor on Curriculum

I live in Lawn with my husband and my 5 year old son who is currently in Lawn Reception class.

I am a accountant by trade, and I worked in the Financial Service industry in London for 15 years. I moved with my family to Swindon in 2012, and since then have continued to work in Financial Services, but in a more strategic, project management capacity.

My son has special needs, and has a full time one on one key worker at school. I have therefore had the opportunity to see how government organisations interact with each other as we have to collaborate with many different departments at any one time, including Swindon Borough Council SEND, SALT and various other special needs groups.

In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family, whether that is travelling, days out at the park or a sporting activity (although I watch, rather than join in!)

I worked in the profession until my 2nd child was born. I now work at Swindon college as a student support worker, helping teenage boys who have learning difficulties including autism, dyslexia and ADHD.
